This Houston, Texas native and graduate of the University of Arizona discovered his love for poker during his sophomore year in college. After studying Hold’em, Omaha and Stud variations, Jon Friedberg progressed quickly and began consistently crushing lower limit cash games in the Tucson, AZ area. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Jon chose to pursue the corporate route while continuing to play poker recreationally.
In 2001, he earned his MBA from Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Business and later that year co-founded Reactrix Systems, Inc., a breakthrough interactive media company. Jon served as the company’s CEO until 2004, when he left to rekindle his love for poker and move to Las Vegas.
In 2004-05, Jon was ranked in the Top 25 of best online tournament players in the world by PocketFives.com. Using the now famous screen name “PokerTrip”, Jon experienced a great deal of success on the virtual felt, however, his greatest accomplishment came two years later. In 2006, Jon climbed to the top of the poker world when he won event #17 at the World Series of Poker by outlasting the then largest non-main event tournament field in history. The win gave Jon his first WSOP bracelet and the $526,000 first place prize. Since winning his bracelet, Jon has final tabled several other major events, bringing his live tournament poker earnings to over $1,000,000.
However, what makes this champion even more impressive is his desire to educate and train other players. Jon has hosted his own poker strategy show called “Stacking Chips” on Cardplayer TV and has co-hosted an online radio show called “The Circuit” on Cardplayer.com. He has also served as a live radio final table commentator at the 2007 and 2008 WSOP and is also a WPT Boot Camp instructor.
With a combination of strong passion for the game and an ambitious entrepreneurial spirit, Jon Friedberg is determined to succeed in everything he pursues. When not competing on the major tournament circuit or exploring new business opportunities, Jon travels the globe and enjoys spending time with family and friends. He is also a mentor for aspiring entrepreneurs and poker players, and is a regular guest speaker at Pepperdine University and other corporate functions.
